Is this a personal stash Simon? Never had you down as a Larry Coryell fan . . .
no it's just shit off the internet.
i've never actually listened to Larry Coryell. but i do like a lot of fusion - Weather Report, Herbie (after Sextant too), Roy Ayers / RAMP. i keep meaning to push further out (meaning not "out" but deeper into the Naff zone e.g. give George Duke a go, Stanley Clarke ( i remember seeing him on TV in late 70s and finding it a bit flappy sounding, the slap bass)
I wouldn't call George Duke "naff" but I know his proximity to Zappa doesn't help matters. His run of albums for German label MPS in the early 70s is really good. I'm less keen on his Columbia records in the second half of the 70s, although the first side of "Master of the Game" (1979) is excellent R&B. "Brazilian Love Affair" (1980) is one of my top three jazz funk LPs, with Grover's "Reed Seed" and The Crusaders' "Free As The Wind." That's jazz funk spelt E-S-S-E-X. Duke made that always interesting journey from the periphery (Zappa) to the centre (Deniece Williams). Don't know much about Stanley Clarke's solo output although "School Days" (the track) is the greatest riff of all time. Weather Report's "Mysterious Traveller" is completely fantastic. The footage you posted a while back of W.R. at Montreux in '76 is great - thanks for that.
