Their best works are rather magnificent, I think. I really like the combination of Kraftwerk-like synth lines and rumbling bass on Electricity, Souvenir is a pop classic, the two Joan Of Arc themed singles brought some enchanting vibes into the top 5 and Stanlow actually makes Ellesmere Port seem like an expanse of awe (This is no small achievement, believe me. I live less than 10 miles away).

I quite like Tesla Girls, as well. It belongs to that odd moment around 1984 when the original wave of UK synth pop acts were trying out slightly bolder, more abstract arrangements - Master & Servant and Sex Crime by the Eurythmics are a bit like that, too.

And then, of course, there was Dazzle Ships. A brave record, at the time, and one that has aged very well, with some vindication.

I dunno what happened to them in the mid-80s. I think they started to believe that they were songwriters, first and foremost. They were at their best when pursuing the pop sensibility while remaining anchored in their futurist roots.
