it's a bottomless well of crud and curiosity the 70s isn't it

what was mungo jerry's deal then?

he looks like Z-Man in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls crossed with Cornelius from Planet of the Apes

now this one is actually pretty good

Family were great, but this isn't my favourite (that would be "burlesque")

it got to Number 4 in the singles chart though!

curved air, another group that's just dropped off the cliff of popular memory

oh yes and this is what i meant to post in the first place -- who remembers this lot?

was that their big hit or something else?

one more for memory lane

no hang on, one more

Sky: Toccata. That was their big hit, yes. Truly horrible. There's something about the keyboard-and-bass intro that is like ingesting the whole of 'Abigail's Party' in 15 seconds. The rush of seventies banality and pretension is literally stomach-churning. When people go on about "Oh, ELP were fantastic, actually," they never seem to get to Sky.

OTOH, in the era where everything can be rehabilitated, that is quite an achievement, I guess.

I am amused by how much John Williams looks like Lee Ranaldo, too. Coincidence? Perhaps not...

Curved Air were rather cool, though. The Doors fronted by Grace Slick
